We are thrilled to announce that Austin Sidney Palmer, from Palmer Tire & Auto Service, has been awarded the prestigious WOW Award, presented by Capitol City Now! 🎉 This award is given to individuals who go above and beyond to make a meaningful impact on others, and Austin’s selfless actions exemplify that spirit perfectly.
The nomination for Austin’s award came from Darryl Harris, who shared a heartwarming story of how Austin’s kindness turned a challenging day into one filled with hope. Darryl, returning home to Springfield, Illinois, after attending his uncle's funeral in Gary, Indiana, experienced a series of unfortunate events. On top of the emotional toll of the funeral, Darryl's wife had been rear-ended in an auto accident the day before, and he was left with a flat tire on the side of a rural road near Champaign, Illinois, late at night after a long day of travel.
Despite multiple vehicles passing him by, Austin Sidney Palmer, a young man on his way to visit his girlfriend, made a U-turn when he saw Darryl stranded. With calmness and a peaceful demeanor, Austin approached Darryl, offering to help him change the tire. Austin’s quick, selfless actions saved Darryl from what could have been a long and stressful wait for assistance in an unfamiliar area.
Darryl noted Austin’s genuine kindness throughout the entire interaction. Austin never asked for money or compensation and was reluctant to accept Darryl's offer of payment. What stood out most was the sincerity behind Austin’s help—he was simply compelled to be of service. After changing the tire, Austin made sure Darryl was safe by asking him to text once he made it home. Even after the fact, Austin texted on Sunday to check in, writing, “God bless you Darryl, and I am glad He sent me to assist you.”
